Colombian vendor Magic Empanadas kicks off the library’s restaurant incubator series in 2025. Colombian vendor Magic Empanadas, owned by Edward Jerez, is in the middle of a ten-day takeover of the kitchen that runs through Sunday, February 2. Diners can head to the bar to order the namesake crunchy corn empanadas stuffed with savory and sweet fillings like carnitas mixed with fire-roasted corn, cilantro, and cheddar or guava and cheese. Jerez is also featuring plates not found at Magic Empanadas’ tent at farmers markets, festivals, and events around the city where it pops up, like a Colombian picada with potatoes, chorizo, morcilla, crispy arepas, and tostones, or fried plantains, served with sauces including a traditional Colombian hogao.
